Moorepay’s growth confirms SMEs lead cloud adoption
If you are familiar with NGA, it’s probably because you have heard of our global payroll & HR outsourcing capabilities, our sizeable HCM implementation practice, or one of our platforms such as ResourceLink or euHReka. All of these solutions focus on mid-sized to large enterprises. But few people associate NGA with the SME (small and medium enterprise) market.
In this blog post I wanted to put a spotlight on Moorepay, NGA’s SME division in the United Kingdom, providing HR and payroll services in the cloud. Why now? Very simple: in the last 12 months, Moorepayhr – Moorepay’s cloud HR solution - has seen steep growth adding 1,000 small and medium customers. The pace of growth also confirms a bigger trend: SMEs outpace large enterprises in cloud adoption.
Initially we had some concerns whether organizations with fewer than 500 employees were ready for a HR cloud service. The Moorepay team quickly found that small business owners understand the cloud very well, based on their own experiences as consumers, and many were eager for a new type of HR service in the cloud. By the end of April 2013, Moorepay had signed its 1,000th customer, and a few weeks ago the team held a company-wide celebration.
Gary Boyes, Moorepay’s sales director, clarifies where demand is coming from: “Many smaller organizations often feel overlooked by traditional HR and payroll agencies. Traditionally SMEs weren’t offered the same rich functionality and self-service access afforded to larger organizations. By focusing on an area of the market previously neglected, Moorepay has successfully grown into a solution that closes this gap at a time when the introduction of Real Time Information (learn more about RTI here) could spell problems for smaller businesses.” We couldn’t agree more.
One of the recipes for success for Moorepay’s growth has been the combination of a SaaS-platform, leveraging NGA’s Preceda platform, originally developed by NGA Australia, and a broad range of supporting HR services. The combination brings deep HR functionality, web-based self-service, and a permanent telephone ‘helpline’ together, with HR and payroll specialists standing by to advise employees, managers and small business owners on HR and payroll questions they can’t solve via self-service.
Earlier in the year we reached out to the advisory community to ask them about their expectations around cloud-based HR services. On her blog, NelsonHall’s Linda Merritt commented: “[Moorepay] saw the need for an integrated HR and payroll platform and wanted to achieve this in its own way by combining new technology with its existing BPO managed payroll and HR services, including on-hand subject-matter experts for guidance on employee issues, into a business process as a service (BPaaS) service.”
We also asked Angela Eager from TechMarketView for feedback. Last year in March she suggested that the “outlook was promising”. And one year on, she confirms: “The Moorepay experience and move into larger organizations is notable because it says customers are looking for back office SaaS solutions but want more than the applications – delivery, process and business support are key requirements.”
Look out for more exciting news from Moorepay in the next months, as we start working with organizations of up to 1,000 employees. As the Moorepay sales and marketing team builds up steam, we’re also expanding our offering to include HR compliance and advisory services, on the same cloud-based platform. Thumbs up for SMEs moving HR to the cloud faster than anyone else.
